Eugene T. Mahoney State Park - Ashland, NE

Eugene T. Mahoney State Park offers year-round accommodations and recreational use. This ultra modern park offers a spectacular array of lodging, group meeting facilities and activities. Located near Ashland, just off of I 80 at exit 426, Mahoney nestles on 690 acres along the picturesque Platte River.

The dominant feature of the park, the Peter Kiewit Lodge, offers 40 guest rooms, each with private bath. There are sleeping lofts and fireplaces in 16 rooms. Each has two queen beds. The Peter Kiewit Lodge also houses the restaurant (where guests can dine with the scenic Platte River as a backdrop), a gift shop and meeting rooms. The restaurant can also cater meals for group activities.

The lodge offers 40 guest rooms, each with AC and heat, wireless Internet, telephone, TV and a private bath. Sixteen have sleeping lofts, and all but 16 rooms have walkout decks that overlook the park or the Platte River. Lodge rooms have two queen beds each and the loft lodge rooms have 2 queen beds and a queen size sofa sleeper. Off-season rates are available on park lodging.

Secluded on wooded ridgetops, the modern housekeeping cabins are available throughout the year. Linens, tableware and basic cookware are provided. Each cabin has air conditioning/heat, fireplace, TV, refrigerator, range, outdoor deck and grill. The three, four and six bedroom cabins can host larger families or group retreats. The other cabins all have two bedrooms, and some are ADA-accessible.

Mahoney has myrid recreational activities, including a Family Aquatic Center complete with a 0-depth swimming and wave pool and two 200-plus-foot curling water slides. Other activities include miniature golf, driving range, tennis and basketball courts, softball fields, horseback trail rides, crafts, fishing, picnicking, hiking, 70-foot observation tower, nature conservatory, the Denman and Mary Mallory Kountze Theater, hiking and biking trail and beautiful waterway.

At Owen Marina, visitors will find the camp store with ice cream, snacks and sandwiches, can rent a paddleboat and checkout recreational equipment. Winter activities, depending on conditions, include cross country skiing, sledding and toboggan runs and ice fishing. The Activity Center provides year-round entertainment with an indoor playground, activity simulators, concession stand and an ice skating rink.

Eugene T. Mahoney State Park's Family Aquatic Center is fun for everyone. The complex has 2 Water Slides, 0-depth swimming & wave pool, kid's water playground, change house, and concession. The Aquatic Center is open from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day weekend with reduced hours beginning Mid-August.

· Admission: Single Admission. Adults $7 and Children (12 & under) $6. Children two years of age and younger may use the swimming pools at state parks for free. Blue tubes are available to rent for $3 per tube. Season Passes: Adults, $110; Children, $90; Family (2-5 people) $270, (6-10 people) $320, and (11-15 people) $370

· Season: The Family Aquatic Center is open from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day weekend.

· Hours: Daily (7 days a week): Noon-5 p.m. & 6-8 p.m.

· Late Summer Hours: Beginning August 19, 2009 hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 4 - 8 p.m.; Saturday, Sunday: noon - 5 p.m; 6 - 8 p.m. Last day of operation is Monday, September 7. Hours are noon to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

The Denman and Mary Mallory Kountze Memorial Theatre is located centrally in the park approximately 1/8th of a mile from the main lodge. The facility is an indoor, climate controlled, state-of-the-art theatre seating 165 audience members comfortably. There is a fully stocked and staffed concession stand and the building is handicapped accessible.

Since 1993 melodramas have been performed at the Eugene T. Mahoney State Park located midway between Omaha and Lincoln Nebraska on interstate highway I-80. There are three plays produced in repertory during the summer months and one play produced in the fall. The melodramas are designed to provide wholesome family-orientated entertainment and are widely popular in Nebraska and surrounding States.

Little Creek and Lakeside campgrounds offer spacious, hardsurfaced pads, situated among mature shade trees near Owen Marina Lake. Modern shower/latrine buildings and drinking water are conveniently located in both areas. There is a coin-operated laundry in the shower building at Little Creek. Trailer dump stations and water are available near the park entrance.

Wireless Internet is free of charge for those campers registered in Lakeside Campground.

All campers must register at the office prior to setting up on a campsite. Reservations are accepted. Reservations are taken for 50% of the modern camping. Reservations are taken up to 1 year in advance of arrival day. Year to date reservations begin at 9 a.m. CT, by phone, in person or over the Internet.
